Quick verdict
Robinhood Dogecoin trading is about as easy as buying a share of a stock: open the app, tap the coin, pick a dollar amount. On 14 October 2026 Robinhood’s own availability table listed DOGE as tradable with no state restriction, and its transfer page confirmed that you can move DOGE in and out on the native Dogecoin network. That combination, plus a New York BitLicense, makes it one of the more complete US options for DOGE.
The weaker side is cost transparency. The default “no commission” routing earns Robinhood money through market-maker rebates, so your cost sits inside the quoted price rather than on a fee line. We score it 7.5 out of 10: strong on access and licensing, docked for opaque pricing and a $30 million New York penalty in 2022. If you’re still choosing a platform, our exchange reviews hub compares it with eleven other venues.
Is Dogecoin on Robinhood? Who runs the crypto side
The crypto business sits in Robinhood Crypto, LLC, a subsidiary of Robinhood Markets, Inc., which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker HOOD. Robinhood is mostly known as a commission-free stock broker; crypto is a separate account inside the same app, with its own licences and terms.
Yes, Dogecoin is on Robinhood. The coin-availability page we checked on 14 October 2026 shows DOGE as tradable in three places: the mobile app and web “classic” experience (market-maker routing), the app with exchange-routing fee tiers, and Robinhood Legend, its desktop trading platform. The footnotes on that page flag coins that are unavailable in New York or Texas; the DOGE row carries none, so DOGE is open to residents of both states. The market is DOGE against the US dollar. Robinhood also owns Bitstamp, which runs its own DOGE/USD and DOGE/EUR books, but that is a separate platform with a separate account.
Outside the US the picture is murkier. Robinhood Europe UAB holds a MiCA authorisation from the Bank of Lithuania, but we could not confirm that DOGE is offered to EU customers, so this review covers the US app only. European readers should look at our Bitvavo Dogecoin review instead.
Licences and regulation
Robinhood announced its New York BitLicense and money transmitter licence in January 2019, which is what allows it to serve New Yorkers at all. The New York Department of Financial Services keeps a public list of virtual-currency licensees, and that’s the place to check if you want to see the licence for yourself.
Elsewhere in the US, crypto platforms generally need state money-transmitter licences. Robinhood’s Georgia certificate shows NMLS ID 1702840, but that particular record expired in 2018 and the NMLS Consumer Access site blocked our checks on 14 October 2026, so we can’t confirm the current state-by-state list. You can look the ID up yourself on NMLS Consumer Access. In the EU, Robinhood Europe UAB appears on ESMA’s interim MiCA register with a Bank of Lithuania authorisation dated 29 May 2025.
One thing a licence doesn’t give you: crypto held at a broker is not the same as securities. SIPC protection is designed for securities and cash at broker-dealers; treat any DOGE on Robinhood as an unprotected custodial balance unless Robinhood’s own terms say otherwise. For the wider legal picture, our guide to Dogecoin in the United States covers the SEC, state licences and IRS rules.

How to buy Dogecoin on Robinhood
The flow takes a few minutes once your account is verified. Robinhood asks for the usual identity details during sign-up, and you link a US bank account to fund it.
Open and verify an account
Download the app or sign up on the web, then complete identity verification. Crypto trading sits inside the main account.
Fund it with dollars
Link a bank account and move USD in. Funding methods and any instant-deposit limits are shown in the app; we did not find a published fee table for them.
Search for Dogecoin
Type DOGE or Dogecoin into search and open the coin page, which shows the chart and the current quote.
Choose an amount and review the quote
Enter dollars or DOGE. The confirmation screen shows the price you’ll pay, which already includes the spread on default routing.
Confirm, then decide where to keep it
Leave DOGE on Robinhood for convenience, or withdraw it to your own Dogecoin wallet for long-term holding.
You can also set up recurring buys on a daily, weekly, every-two-weeks or monthly schedule. When Robinhood launched the feature in September 2021 the minimum was $1 and DOGE was eligible; we couldn’t confirm today’s minimum, so check it in the app. Recurring buys are a simple way to dollar-cost average, and our Dogecoin calculator lets you test how a regular amount would have played out.
Robinhood Dogecoin fees: commission-free, but not free
Robinhood’s crypto fee schedule, dated 22 June 2026, describes two ways an order can be filled. The default, market-maker routing, has “no commissions”. Instead, Robinhood routes your order to trading firms and receives rebates from them, so the cost is the gap between the price you get and the mid-market price. Robinhood does not publish a fixed spread for DOGE, and it can widen when markets are hectic.
The second option is exchange routing with visible maker and taker fees based on your 30-day volume. Small accounts start at 0.95% taker and 0.50% maker, which is expensive next to European order books such as Bitvavo’s 0.25% taker. The rates fall with volume to 0.03% taker and 0% maker above $25 million a month, a level few DOGE buyers will reach.
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Market-maker routing (default) | No commission | Spread built into the quote; Robinhood earns market-maker rebates |
| Exchange routing, $0–10K volume | 0.95% taker / 0.50% maker | Entry tier, 30-day volume |
| Exchange routing, $25M+ volume | 0.03% taker / 0.00% maker | Top tier |
| DOGE deposit | $0 | 20 confirmations, about 20 minutes |
| DOGE withdrawal | $0 Robinhood fee | You pay the Dogecoin network fee |
| Bank funding (ACH) | Not published | Check the app before you deposit |
The practical tip: before you confirm, compare Robinhood’s quote with the live price on our Dogecoin price page. The difference, multiplied by your order size, is roughly what the trade cost you. On a $50 test purchase that might be cents; on a $5,000 order it is worth checking. Such fee, very hidden.
Can you transfer Dogecoin from Robinhood? Transfers and selling
Yes, and this is one of Robinhood’s better features for DOGE holders. Its crypto-transfers page, checked on 14 October 2026, confirms DOGE deposits and withdrawals on the Dogecoin network in every US state plus DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Robinhood charges nothing itself; it estimates the network fee and adds it to what you send. Incoming DOGE needs 20 confirmations, roughly 20 minutes, and the deposit address changes after every deposit, so always copy a fresh one.
Crypto deposits are unlimited, while withdrawal limits vary by account and, according to Robinhood, can’t be raised on request. If you plan to move a large balance, test with a small amount first and check your limit in the app.
Selling is the reverse of buying: open DOGE, tap Sell, enter an amount and confirm. Proceeds arrive as US dollars in your Robinhood balance, which you can withdraw to your bank. Every sale is a taxable disposal for US taxpayers, and from tax year 2025 brokers report gross proceeds on the new Form 1099-DA. Our guide to selling Dogecoin covers timing, fees and moving funds from a self-custody wallet back to an exchange.
Security record and enforcement
Robinhood’s crypto arm has one major regulatory mark against it. In August 2022 the New York Department of Financial Services fined Robinhood Crypto, LLC $30 million over failings in anti-money-laundering transaction monitoring and cybersecurity, and required an independent consultant for 18 months. It was the regulator’s first crypto enforcement action with a monetary penalty. No customer coins were reported lost in that case, but it speaks to how the compliance function was run at the time.
New York BitLicense
Robinhood announces its NYDFS BitLicense and money transmitter licence for New York.
Recurring crypto buys
Recurring buys launch from $1, with DOGE eligible (press reports).
$30M NYDFS penalty
Consent order over AML monitoring and cybersecurity failures at Robinhood Crypto, LLC.
EU MiCA authorisation
Robinhood Europe UAB authorised by the Bank of Lithuania (ESMA register).
Current fee schedule
The crypto fee schedule we used for this review is dated 22 June 2026.
For your own account, the basics matter more than history: use a unique password, turn on app-based two-factor authentication and be wary of anyone contacting you “from Robinhood support”. Fake support agents and giveaway scams target DOGE holders constantly; our Dogecoin scams guide lists the patterns to recognise.
App and everyday experience
The Robinhood app is rated 4.3 out of 5 from about 4.9 million ratings on the US App Store (checked 13 October 2026). For DOGE the design is deliberately minimal: a chart, a buy button and a sell button. That simplicity helps beginners, but it also means less information on screen than an order-book exchange. Active traders can switch to exchange routing or Robinhood Legend for more control.
Pros, cons and our score
👍 What we like
- DOGE tradable in every state, including New York and Texas
- No commission on default routing
- Native Dogecoin withdrawals with no Robinhood fee
- Recurring buys for steady DCA
- NYDFS BitLicense
👀 What to watch
- Cost hidden in a spread Robinhood doesn’t publish
- Exchange routing starts at 0.95% taker
- Only “D” addresses supported
- $30M NYDFS AML and cyber penalty in 2022
- DOGE only against USD; EU availability unconfirmed
We weight regulation at 30%, DOGE access and liquidity at 20%, fees and transparency at 20%, security record at 20% and DOGE features at 10%. Robinhood scores well on regulation and access thanks to the BitLicense and nationwide DOGE availability, and it gains full marks on features for native transfers and recurring buys. It loses ground on transparency, because the default cost can’t be read off a fee table, and on its security record because of the 2022 penalty. The result is 7.5 out of 10.
Robinhood is a fair pick for US beginners who want DOGE in the same app as their stocks and value being able to withdraw it. Check the quote against the live price on bigger orders, and move long-term holdings to your own wallet.
Alternatives and who Robinhood suits
The obvious rival is Coinbase, which our Coinbase Dogecoin review scores slightly higher for its order-book mode and three fiat DOGE pairs. Here is how the two line up for a DOGE buyer, based on the sources in both reviews.

Kraken, Gemini and Binance.US also listed DOGE against the dollar on 14 October 2026. CEX.IO, a long-running global exchange, lists DOGE for US customers too and shows 38 states plus DC on its own licence page, but New York is restricted and its DOGE order books are thin. If you’d rather not hold coins at all, a spot Dogecoin ETF in a brokerage account is another route; see our Dogecoin ETF guide. And note that Cash App does not sell DOGE at all.
Robinhood suits US users who want a simple, commission-free app, already use Robinhood for stocks, and like the option to send DOGE to a wallet. It suits less those who want to see every cent of cost, trade large amounts, or live outside the US. Questions people ask
Is Dogecoin on Robinhood?+
Yes. On 14 October 2026 Robinhood’s coin-availability table listed Dogecoin (DOGE) as tradable in the app, on the web and on Robinhood Legend, with no footnote restricting it in New York or Texas. The market is effectively DOGE against US dollars.
Can you transfer Dogecoin from Robinhood to a wallet?+
Yes. Robinhood supports DOGE deposits and withdrawals on the native Dogecoin network in every US state plus DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Only addresses starting with “D” are supported, and you pay the network fee, which Robinhood estimates and adds to the transfer.
What are Robinhood’s Dogecoin fees?+
The default market-maker routing charges no commission, but the quoted price includes a spread and Robinhood receives rebates from market makers. If you choose exchange routing, the entry tier in the fee schedule dated 22 June 2026 is 0.95% taker and 0.50% maker for up to $10,000 of 30-day volume.
How do I sell Dogecoin on Robinhood?+
Open the Dogecoin page in the app, tap Sell, enter an amount in dollars or DOGE, review the quote and confirm. The proceeds land as US dollars in your Robinhood balance, from where you can withdraw to your linked bank.
Can I stake Dogecoin on Robinhood?+
No. Dogecoin is a proof-of-work coin, so there is nothing to stake natively, and Robinhood does not offer a DOGE staking product.
Robinhood vs Coinbase for Dogecoin: which is better?+
Robinhood suits US users who want a simple commission-free app with DOGE transfers. Coinbase offers DOGE against USD, EUR and GBP, an order-book mode and an EU MiCA licence, but its simple-buy pricing is costly. Compare both before funding either.
