Quick answer
To buy Dogecoin in India, open an account on an exchange registered with FIU-IND that lists DOGE/INR, complete KYC with your PAN and Aadhaar, add rupees by UPI or bank transfer, and buy. On 14 October 2026 we confirmed live DOGE/INR markets on CoinDCX and WazirX through their public APIs, and CoinGecko showed DOGE/INR books on KoinBX, ZebPay, Koinpark and Giottus.
The catch is tax, not access. India charges a flat 30% on crypto gains, deducts 1% TDS on every sale, and does not let you use losses to reduce your bill. That changes how you should trade DOGE here, so we cover it in detail below. For the general mechanics of wallets and orders, see our step-by-step Dogecoin buying guide.
Is Dogecoin legal in India?
Yes. Owning, buying and selling DOGE is legal in India. There is no standalone crypto law: crypto is not legal tender and it is not banned. Instead, the state regulates it from two angles, money laundering and tax, and calls it a “virtual digital asset” (VDA).
The history explains a lot of the confusion you will still hear. On 6 April 2018 the Reserve Bank of India told regulated entities to stop serving crypto businesses, which cut exchanges off from banks. On 4 March 2020 the Supreme Court struck that circular down in Internet and Mobile Association of India v. RBI on proportionality grounds, reopening banking access. Since then, the practical rulebook has come from other places.
The anti-money-laundering side sits with FIU-IND. Notification S.O. 1072(E) of 7 March 2023 made VDA service providers “reporting entities” under the PMLA, and offshore providers serving Indians must register too. FIU-IND does not publish a searchable register, so the registration claims below come from the exchanges themselves or from press reports. We could not confirm any crypto mandate for SEBI.
Dogecoin price in INR
The widget at the top of this page shows the live DOGE to INR rate and how many coins ₹1,000, ₹5,000 or ₹10,000 buy. As a dated snapshot, CoinGecko’s reference rate at about 08:00 UTC on 14 October 2026 was ₹7.75 per DOGE, while CoinDCX’s DOGE/INR book last traded at ₹8.19 a few hours later. Part of that gap is timing, but it is a reminder to compare the rupee price on your exchange with a global reference before a large buy.
India is a big crypto country but a modest DOGE-in-rupees market. About $0.77 million of DOGE traded against INR on CoinGecko-tracked venues that day, roughly one-eighth of the Turkish lira volume. Indian exchanges also list DOGE against USDT, which that figure does not include. Our main Dogecoin price page explains where quotes come from and why they differ.
Indian exchanges with DOGE/INR
We checked exchange APIs and CoinGecko on 14 October 2026. Because FIU-IND has no public register, the “registered” column reflects press reports or the exchange’s own statement, not a register lookup.
| Exchange | DOGE markets | Worth knowing | FIU-IND |
|---|---|---|---|
| CoinDCX | DOGEINR, DOGEUSDT | ₹100 minimum order | Registered (Mar 2023, press) |
| KoinBX | DOGE/INR | Largest INR DOGE book on CoinGecko that day | Not confirmed by us |
| WazirX | dogeinr, dogeusdt | Trading restarted Oct 2025 after 2024 hack | Registered (press) |
| ZebPay | DOGE/INR | Small volume that day | Registered (press) |
| CoinSwitch, Mudrex | DOGE not confirmed | Mudrex uses an INR to USDT model | Self-declared |
CoinDCX is the best-documented option: an active DOGEINR market with a ₹100 minimum order, limit and market orders, plus DOGE/USDT and DOGE/BTC. Coinbase agreed an investment valuing it at $2.45 billion post-money, subject to approvals. On the other side of the ledger, on 19 July 2025 about $44.2 million was stolen from an internal operational account; the company said customer wallets were unaffected. Its official fee page blocked our check, and secondary sources quote INR spot fees between 0.10% and 0.50%, so confirm in the app. Our CoinDCX review goes deeper.
KoinBX had the largest INR DOGE book on CoinGecko that day, about $658,000 in 24 hours. WazirX restarted trading in October 2025 after its 2024 hack, according to press reports, and its API showed dogeinr trading. ZebPay lists DOGE/INR with small volume. CoinSwitch and Mudrex advertise FIU registration, but we could not confirm DOGE on either when we checked.

How to buy Dogecoin in India, step by step
Choose an FIU-IND-registered exchange with DOGE/INR
CoinDCX, WazirX, KoinBX and ZebPay all had DOGE/INR books when we checked. Prefer an exchange that publishes its FIU registration clearly.
Complete KYC
Expect to provide your PAN and an ID document, often Aadhaar, plus a selfie check. PAN matters because TDS on your sales is reported against it.
Add rupees by UPI
UPI is the default way to fund an account; IMPS or NEFT bank transfers work for larger amounts. Card options vary by exchange; our guide to paying by card explains the trade-offs.
Buy on the DOGE/INR market
A limit order lets you set your rupee price instead of accepting the spread. On CoinDCX the minimum order is ₹100.
Decide where to keep it
If you move DOGE to your own Dogecoin wallet, use the native Dogecoin network and a D address. Withdrawal fees vary by exchange, so check before you send.
Dogecoin tax in India
India’s crypto tax rules are among the strictest anywhere, and they have not budged. Budget 2026 kept both headline measures, according to press coverage. Gains on transferring a VDA such as DOGE are taxed at a flat 30%, plus surcharge and 4% health and education cess. The only deduction allowed is your cost of acquisition. Losses cannot be set off against any other income, not even gains on other coins, and cannot be carried forward.
| Rule | What it means | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Tax on gains | 30% flat + surcharge + 4% cess | Formerly section 115BBH |
| Deductions | Only the cost of acquisition | No fees, no other expenses |
| Losses | No set-off, no carry-forward | Not even against other crypto |
| TDS on sale | 1% of the sale value | Formerly section 194S |
| Where to report | Schedule VDA of the ITR | Every disposal |
These rules were written as sections 115BBH (the 30% charge) and 194S (the 1% TDS) of the Income-tax Act 1961. The new Income-tax Act 2025 has applied since 1 April 2026, and we could not confirm the new section numbers, so you will see “formerly 115BBH/194S” in most guides. Report gains in Schedule VDA of your return.
A worked example with round numbers shows why trading style matters. You buy DOGE for ₹80,000 and sell for ₹1,00,000. The ₹20,000 gain attracts 30% tax, ₹6,000, plus 4% cess for ₹6,240 before any surcharge. The exchange also deducts 1% TDS, ₹1,000, when you sell, which you claim back against your liability. Now imagine you also lost ₹15,000 on another coin that year: under the VDA rules it does not reduce the DOGE bill at all. Frequent in-and-out trading therefore tends to cost more in India than elsewhere. This is general information, not tax advice; check with a chartered accountant.
Global exchanges and CEX.IO
Indian buyers sometimes look at global platforms for more pairs. CEX.IO, a long-running global exchange, is not an option: India is on its unsupported countries list, updated 10 September 2026. That is why the buttons on this page carry an availability note.
More generally, FIU-IND requires offshore providers that serve Indians to register as reporting entities. Using an unregistered offshore app does not remove your tax duties; it just makes the paperwork and any dispute harder. Sticking to an FIU-registered local exchange with an INR order book is the simpler path.
Safety tips for Indian buyers
India’s two big exchange hacks of recent years, at WazirX in 2024 and CoinDCX in 2025, are a reminder that leaving everything on one platform is a risk. Fake Elon Musk giveaways, recovery “agents” and apps promising fixed daily returns on DOGE follow the same scripts in India as everywhere else. Our Dogecoin scams guide shows how they work.
- Check that the exchange states its FIU-IND registration before you deposit.
- Fund only from a bank account or UPI ID in your own name.
- Keep the TDS certificates and trade history; you will need them for Schedule VDA.
- Plan around the no-loss-set-off rule instead of trading in and out for small moves.
- Never share an OTP or seed phrase, whoever claims to be calling from the exchange.
When you are ready to cash out, our guide to selling Dogecoin explains withdrawals, and the exchange reviews hub compares platforms. To see how other big markets handle DOGE, look at the United States, Australia or the full countries list.
Buying DOGE in India is easy: UPI deposits, rupee order books and a ₹100 minimum on CoinDCX. Keeping your gains is the hard part, with 30% tax, 1% TDS and no loss relief. Pick an FIU-registered exchange, buy with a plan rather than on a whim, and keep records from day one. Much rupee, very paperwork.
