Dogecoin ETF guide: every fund, fee and ticker

Yes, Dogecoin ETFs exist: DOJE, GDOG and TDOG in the US, a 2x fund, and ETPs in Europe. One, Bitwise BWOW, stopped trading on 14 October and is being liquidated. Here is what each holds, what it costs and how it compares with owning DOGE.

Our buttons open CEX.IO, an exchange running since 2013. In the US it is registered with NMLS (#1804170) and lists money-transmitter licences in 38 states plus DC; in the UK it is registered with the FCA for anti-money-laundering purposes (firm 1007192). Check that it serves your country first.

Is there a Dogecoin ETF?

Yes. A Dogecoin ETF is now a real thing you can buy in an ordinary US brokerage account, which would have sounded like a joke in 2013. REX-Osprey's DOJE was first, on 18 September 2025. Grayscale's spot GDOG followed on 24 November 2025 and 21Shares' TDOG on 22 January 2026, alongside a 2x leveraged fund, TXXD. Bitwise's BWOW also launched, but it is now being wound down.

In Europe the equivalent products are exchange-traded products (ETPs), led by the 21Shares Dogecoin ETP listed in Zurich and Frankfurt. The catch across the board: these funds are tiny. Combined, the US products hold only a few tens of millions of dollars, a sliver of a coin worth about $12.7 billion on 14 October 2026 (CoinGecko). All figures below are dated snapshots from issuers and SEC filings; check the fund pages before you trade.

What a Dogecoin ETF is (and the different types)

An exchange-traded fund is a share you buy on a stock exchange that tracks something else, in this case the price of DOGE. You never touch the coins. The issuer or its custodian holds them, publishes a daily net asset value (NAV), and charges an annual fee that is taken out of the fund's assets.

Not every "Dogecoin ETF" works the same way, and the label on the tin matters:

  • Spot trusts (GDOG, TDOG, BWOW). These hold DOGE directly with a regulated custodian. GDOG's coins sit with Coinbase Custody Trust Co., according to its SEC filings; TDOG uses Anchorage Digital, BitGo and Coinbase Custody International. This is the closest thing to owning the coin inside a brokerage account.
  • 1940 Act funds (DOJE). DOJE holds DOGE through a Cayman Islands subsidiary and can mix spot coins with other DOGE products. On 13 October 2026 it was about 59.9% spot DOGE and 40.1% in the 21Shares Dogecoin ETP. That structure let it launch before the spot trusts.
  • Leveraged funds (TXXD). These aim for a multiple of DOGE's daily move. Because the leverage resets every day, holding for weeks in a choppy market can produce returns far from "2x". They are trading tools, not buy-and-hold products.
  • European ETPs. Technically debt securities (exchange-traded notes) backed by coins, not UCITS funds, but they trade on exchanges like ETFs.

How did DOGE get here? The turning point came on 17 September 2025, when the SEC approved NYSE Arca's generic listing standards for commodity-based trust shares (Rule 8.201-E). As Grayscale explains in its 10-K filing, qualifying crypto products could then list without a separate 19b-4 approval, and GDOG listed under those standards. So when people search for a "Dogecoin ETF approval" date, the honest answer is that there was a rule change rather than a single yes for DOGE.

US Dogecoin ETFs: tickers, launch dates and fees

Here are the US-listed products our research could confirm, with the fee each issuer states. The TXXD fee comes from a third-party data page and is marked as reported.

Grayscale Dogecoin ETF (GDOG) is the low-cost spot option at 0.35% a year. It was converted from Grayscale's older private Dogecoin Trust, and the fee was cut from 2.5% at conversion; a launch fee waiver ran until 25 February 2026. Its Q2 2026 10-Q reported 105,075,919.7 DOGE and $7.585 million in net assets on 30 June 2026.

21Shares Dogecoin ETF (TDOG) charges 0.50%. 21Shares markets it as the only ETF provider endorsed by the Dogecoin Foundation, via an exclusive partnership with House of Doge, the Foundation's corporate arm. That is the issuer's claim, not a guarantee of anything about performance. 21Shares also runs TXXD, its 2x leveraged Dogecoin ETF, launched on 20 November 2025.

REX-Osprey DOGE ETF (DOJE) is the oldest of the US group and also the most expensive at a 1.50% total expense ratio. Its custodian is not named on the issuer page we checked. REX has also filed for a riskier "DOJE Growth and Income" fund using covered calls; we could not confirm that it has launched.

Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) is being liquidated

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF launched on NYSE Arca on 26 November 2025 with a 0.34% fee, the lowest headline fee of the group. It never gathered much money. Its 10-Q showed just $473,547 in net assets and about 6.56 million DOGE on 30 June 2026, and press reports put it at roughly $0.7 million in September.

On 10 September 2026 Bitwise announced the liquidation, citing a wish to "optimize its product range". The schedule:

  1. 14 Oct 2026: last trading day

BWOW shares could be sold on NYSE Arca until the close; trading has now ended.

  2. 15 Oct 2026: creations stop

No new shares are created from before the open.

  3. 21 Oct 2026: final NAV

Remaining holders are valued at net asset value as of this date.

  4. 22 Oct 2026: cash paid

The cash distribution goes to remaining shareholders through their brokers.

It is reported to be the first US spot Dogecoin ETF to close. If you hold BWOW, either route ends in cash, and a sale or liquidation can trigger a taxable gain or loss. Anyone wanting to keep DOGE exposure has to choose a new home, whether another fund or the coin itself.

Dogecoin ETF assets and inflows: a reality check

Headlines about ETF "inflows" can make DOGE funds sound like a firehose. The issuer and SEC numbers say otherwise. Adding up the latest snapshots gives roughly $22 million across the four main US products, measured on different dates, so treat it as approximate.

Set against DOGE's roughly $12.74 billion market cap on 14 October 2026, $22 million is about 0.17% of the coin's value. One secondary report put spot DOGE ETF assets at about $11.2 million in April 2026, so the category has grown, but from a very low base. For comparison, a single busy day of DOGE trading on exchanges runs to hundreds of millions of dollars (CoinGecko listed about $670 million of 24-hour volume on 14 October 2026).

The practical upshot: so far DOGE ETFs are not a major price driver. If you are weighing how flows might matter in future, our Dogecoin price prediction scenarios treat ETFs as one input among many, and the live Dogecoin price page shows where the market sits today.

Dogecoin ETPs in Europe

European investors usually cannot buy US-listed ETFs. US funds generally do not publish the PRIIPs key information document that EU brokers must hand to retail clients, so those products are rarely offered. Instead, Europe has crypto ETPs, which are notes backed by the underlying coins.

The 21Shares Dogecoin ETP listed on 7 April 2025 and reached Deutsche Börse's Xetra on 10 April 2026 under the ticker DOGE GY. According to the 29 September 2026 factsheet, it is physically backed, held by BitGo Europe GmbH, charges 2.50% a year and had about $11.0 million in assets. Its prospectus is passported to most EU/EEA countries, including Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Poland. Note that 2.50% is several times the fee of the cheapest US spot funds.

Valour Dogecoin (DOGE) SEK launched on Sweden's Spotlight Stock Market on 26 November 2024 and was billed as the first DOGE ETP in the Nordics. We could not confirm its fee or backing on Valour's site, and a euro line reported elsewhere is also unconfirmed. We found no Dogecoin ETP from WisdomTree, VanEck or CoinShares, and no Canadian DOGE ETF. Tax treatment of ETPs differs from holding coins in several countries; our Germany and Sweden guides and the wider country hub cover local rules.

Dogecoin ETF vs buying DOGE

Should you own the fund or the coin? Neither is automatically better. They solve different problems.

An ETF suits you if you already invest through a brokerage, want DOGE in a tax-advantaged account where your broker allows it, or simply never want to think about seed phrases. You pay for that convenience every year, and you lose the things that make DOGE a currency: you cannot tip someone, pay a merchant or move coins to your own wallet.

Buying DOGE directly costs a spread and trading fee up front, then nothing ongoing unless you move coins on-chain, where fees are usually well under a cent. Markets never close. The trade-off is responsibility: you choose an exchange, and if you withdraw, you guard your own keys. Our step-by-step guide to buying Dogecoin and Dogecoin wallet guide cover both sides. Some readers end up doing both.

Our take

DOGE ETFs are a genuine milestone and handy for brokerage-only investors, especially GDOG and TDOG with fees of 0.35–0.50%. But the funds are small, one is already closing, and they cost something every year. If you want to actually use Dogecoin, or hold it for many years at no annual fee, the coin itself is simpler. Either way, size the position as if it could fall 80% or more, because it has before.

How to buy a Dogecoin ETF

Buying a DOGE fund works like buying any other share. Open or log in to a brokerage account that offers US ETFs (or EU ETPs if you are in Europe), search for the ticker, check the fee and the bid-ask spread, and place an order during market hours. A limit order helps on thinly traded funds, where spreads can be wider than on big ETFs. US investors can check the United States guide for how crypto funds and coins are taxed.

Before you buy, read the prospectus section on risks: DOGE is volatile (about 66.8% annualised volatility in the year to 13 October 2026, versus 44.3% for Bitcoin, on CoinMarketCap data), a fund can close as BWOW shows, and the fee compounds. Our balanced look at whether Dogecoin is a good investment covers the bigger picture, and the Dogecoin vs Bitcoin comparison explains why DOGE funds attracted far less money than Bitcoin ones. Much of DOGE's fame, and its sentiment swings, still trace back to one man; the story of Elon Musk and Dogecoin is worth knowing before you buy any DOGE product. Nothing here is investment advice; fees, holdings and availability change, and the issuer documents in our sources are the final word.

Questions people ask

Is there a Dogecoin ETF?+

Yes. In the US, REX-Osprey DOJE (since 18 Sep 2025), Grayscale GDOG (24 Nov 2025) and 21Shares TDOG (22 Jan 2026) hold DOGE exposure, and 21Shares TXXD offers 2x daily leverage. Bitwise BWOW is being liquidated, with 14 Oct 2026 as its last trading day. In Europe, 21Shares and Valour list Dogecoin ETPs.

When was the Dogecoin ETF approved?+

There was no single approval moment. DOJE launched on 18 Sep 2025 as a 1940 Act fund. Spot trusts followed after the SEC approved NYSE Arca’s generic listing standards for commodity-based trust shares on 17 Sep 2025, which let GDOG list without an individual 19b-4 decision.

What is the cheapest Dogecoin ETF?+

Among the US spot products still trading, Grayscale GDOG has the lowest stated fee at 0.35% a year, followed by 21Shares TDOG at 0.50%. REX-Osprey DOJE charges a 1.50% total expense ratio. Fees can change, so check the issuer page before buying.

What happens to my BWOW shares?+

Bitwise set BWOW’s last trading day as 14 Oct 2026, so the shares no longer trade. Shareholders who still held after that receive a cash distribution based on net asset value as of 21 Oct, paid on 22 Oct 2026. Holders who sold before the close or who receive the cash payout may both face a taxable event.

Can I buy a Dogecoin ETF in Europe?+

US-listed ETFs are usually not offered to EU retail investors because they lack the PRIIPs key information documents brokers need. Europeans typically use exchange-traded products instead, such as the 21Shares Dogecoin ETP (ISIN CH1431521033) on SIX and Xetra.

Is a Dogecoin ETF better than buying DOGE?+

It depends on what you want. An ETF fits neatly into a brokerage or retirement account and removes wallet management, but you pay an annual fee, trade only during market hours and cannot send or spend the coins. Buying DOGE directly gives you 24/7 access and full control, with the responsibility of keeping it safe.
