Quick verdict
Bitvavo Dogecoin trading is hard to beat on cost in the euro area. On 14 October 2026 its DOGE-EUR book was the largest euro DOGE market tracked by CoinGecko, with about $1.56 million of 24-hour volume. Fees top out at 0.25% for small accounts, euro deposits by iDEAL | Wero or SEPA are free, and, unusually, Bitvavo publishes its DOGE withdrawal fee to the decimal. Add a MiCA licence from the Dutch AFM and quarterly proof-of-reserves attestations, and you have the most complete EU option in our reviews.
We score it 8.5 out of 10, the highest of the twelve venues we cover. It isn’t perfect: card deposits cost 1%, and Bitvavo’s history includes a few data incidents and a large exposure to Gemini and DCG in 2023. Compare it with every other venue on our Dogecoin exchange reviews page.
Who Bitvavo is
Bitvavo B.V. is an Amsterdam-based exchange launched in 2018. The ESMA register lists its address at Keizersgracht 28 in Amsterdam. It is a euro-first platform, and thanks to its MiCA passport it serves users across the EEA. In July 2025 its CEO stepped down, according to public reporting; the company continues to operate under the same licence.

For Dogecoin, Bitvavo offers a real order book rather than a broker quote. Its public API on 14 October 2026 listed DOGE-EUR with status “trading”, a minimum order of €5 (about 67.8 DOGE at the time) and four order types: market, limit, stop-loss and take-profit. A DOGE-USDC market also exists for those who keep a stablecoin balance. Bitvavo doesn’t list DOGE against the US dollar.
MiCA licence and registration
Bitvavo B.V. was authorised by the Dutch AFM as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA on 26 June 2025. The authorisation covers custody, operating a trading platform and transfer services, and it is passported across the EEA. You can check the entry yourself in ESMA’s interim MiCA register, searching for the legal entity name rather than the brand.
The timing matters. The Netherlands chose the shortest MiCA transition among the countries we cover, ending on 30 June 2025, so Bitvavo had to secure its authorisation early. By 14 October 2026 every national grace period in the EU had expired, which means only authorised firms may serve retail clients. Our guide to Dogecoin in the Netherlands explains the Box 3 tax treatment that applies to DOGE you hold on 1 January.
In short, Dutch residents aren’t taxed on actual DOGE gains. For 2026 the Belastingdienst applies a fixed deemed return of 6.00% on “other assets”, which include crypto, above a tax-free allowance of €59,357 (€118,714 with a fiscal partner), taxed at 36%. You can rebut the deemed figure with your actual return. From 1 January 2026, providers such as Bitvavo also report customer data under the EU’s DAC8 rules, so assume the tax office can see your balance. How to buy Dogecoin on Bitvavo
Buying DOGE on Bitvavo (or “dogecoin kopen bij Bitvavo”, as Dutch searchers put it) takes five steps. Verification is the slowest part; after that, a first order can be placed within minutes of an iDEAL deposit.
Create an account and verify
Sign up with your email and complete the identity check in the app. Have an ID document ready.
Deposit euros
Use iDEAL | Wero, SEPA, Bancontact or EPS for free, or a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay for a 1% fee.
Open the DOGE-EUR market
Search for Dogecoin. The simple view shows a Buy button; the advanced view shows the order book and order types.
Place your order
A market order fills at once and pays the taker fee. A limit order sets your price and, if it rests on the book, pays the lower maker fee. Minimum €5.
Keep or withdraw
Leave DOGE on Bitvavo or withdraw it to your own Dogecoin wallet for 3.9 DOGE.
If you want to sanity-check the price before buying, our live Dogecoin price page shows DOGE in euros, and the beginner’s buying guide explains market versus limit orders in more depth.
Bitvavo Dogecoin fees and deposits
Bitvavo charges 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker on euro markets for 30-day volume up to €100,000, and its support pages describe 0.25% as the maximum trading fee. Rates fall as your volume grows. For a typical DOGE purchase that’s cheap: a €100 market order costs €0.25 in fees.
| Item | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Maker fee, €0–100K volume | 0.15% | Limit orders that add liquidity |
| Taker fee, €0–100K volume | 0.25% | Market orders; Bitvavo’s stated maximum |
| iDEAL | Wero, SEPA, Bancontact, EPS | Free | Euro deposits |
| Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay | 1% | Euro deposits |
| Euro withdrawal | Free | To your bank |
| Recurring buys, staking | Not confirmed | DOGE has no native staking |
The fee to watch is on the way in. iDEAL | Wero, SEPA, Bancontact and EPS deposits are free, while cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay cost 1%. On a €200 top-up that’s €2, eight times the trading fee on the same amount. If speed doesn’t matter, a bank transfer is the obvious choice; our guide to buying DOGE with a card compares the payment options across platforms. Euro withdrawals back to your bank are free.
We could not confirm whether Bitvavo offers recurring DOGE buys or any DOGE “staking” product. Dogecoin uses proof of work, so any yield product on DOGE would be a form of lending with its own risks, not staking in the technical sense.

Buy DOGEBitvavo Dogecoin withdrawal fee and deposits
This is where Bitvavo stands out. Its asset API on 14 October 2026 listed a DOGE withdrawal fee of 3.9 DOGE and a minimum withdrawal of 14 DOGE, on the native Dogecoin network. At about €0.073 per DOGE that day, the fee was worth roughly €0.28. Deposits are free and credited after 40 confirmations, which takes around 40 minutes at Dogecoin’s one-minute block target. Both deposits and withdrawals were marked as working.
Most platforms in our reviews only say “network fee” or don’t publish a figure at all, so a fixed, visible fee is genuinely useful when you plan to move coins to self-custody. Always send to a native DOGE address and double-check the first and last characters before you confirm. When you later want to cash out, our guide to selling Dogecoin covers sending DOGE back to an exchange and withdrawing euros.
Security record
Bitvavo publishes quarterly third-party proof-of-reserves attestations using a Merkle tree, a method designed to let customers check that their balance was counted. It also offers an Account Guarantee that covers losses from unauthorised account access up to €100,000, subject to conditions set out in Bitvavo’s terms. Those are stronger commitments than most of its rivals make.
Data exposure
Personal data of eight users exposed (per Wikipedia).
Gemini and DCG exposure
About €280M of exposure to Gemini/DCG reported;
Data breach
A breach affecting a limited number of customers is reported.
MiCA authorisation
AFM authorises Bitvavo B.V. as a CASP.
CEO resigns
Leadership change at the company.
We found no report of customer funds being stolen from Bitvavo, though we can’t prove a negative. The 2023 Gemini/DCG exposure is the item most worth knowing: it showed that a custodial exchange can carry counterparty risk you never see. Our Dogecoin scams guide covers the more common threat, which is phishing aimed at your login rather than at the exchange itself.
App experience
The Bitvavo app holds 4.7 out of 5 from about 48,000 ratings on the Dutch App Store (checked 13 October 2026). It offers a simple buy screen and an advanced trading view in the same app, so beginners and order-book users don’t need separate accounts.
Pros, cons and our score
👍 What we like
- MiCA licence from the AFM, passported EEA-wide
- Deep DOGE-EUR order book from €5
- Maximum 0.25% taker fee
- Published 3.9 DOGE withdrawal fee
- Free iDEAL, SEPA, Bancontact and EPS
- Proof of reserves and €100K account guarantee
👀 What to watch
- 1% fee on card, Apple Pay and Google Pay deposits
- No DOGE/USD market
- Past data incidents (2022, 2024)
- 2023 exposure to Gemini and DCG
Using our weighting (regulation 30%, DOGE access and liquidity 20%, fees and transparency 20%, security 20%, DOGE features 10%), Bitvavo scores at or near the top on regulation, fees and transparency. Liquidity is strong for euros. The security score is good but not perfect because of the 2022 and 2024 data incidents and the 2023 exposure. We also couldn’t confirm recurring DOGE buys, which keeps the features score short of full marks. Total: 8.5 out of 10. Much wow, for a low-fee exchange.
For Dutch and most EU Dogecoin buyers, Bitvavo is the benchmark: deposit by iDEAL or SEPA, buy with a limit order, and withdraw for a fee you can see in advance.
Alternatives and who Bitvavo suits
In the Netherlands, Finst also lists DOGE in euros with a 0.15% fee and iDEAL | Wero deposits, and holds its own AFM authorisation. Pan-EU alternatives include Kraken and Coinbase, both MiCA-licensed and passported; our Coinbase Dogecoin review covers its higher fees and extra currency pairs. Austrian and German users often compare Bitvavo with Bitpanda, a broker with DOGE prices in twelve currencies; see our Bitpanda Dogecoin review. CEX.IO is not an option for new EU users: it stopped onboarding EU and EEA customers while its MiCA application is pending.
Bitvavo suits EU residents who want low, visible fees, pay by iDEAL or SEPA, and may want to move DOGE to their own wallet. It suits less anyone who needs a dollar pair, wants to fund mainly by card, or lives outside the EEA.
